ABBA is a pop group formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1972 by four members, Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The name of the band represents the first letters of their names. They were one of the most successful groups in music history, having the most popular music and topping in the charts between 1974 and 1983. They became the first Sweden winners of the Eurovision Song Contest, with their “Waterloo” song.

The band is comprised of two couples, Lyngstad and Andersson, and Faltskog and Ulvaeus. The more they became popular, the more their personal lives suffered, which led to the collapse of their marriages. They disbanded the group, and Anderson and Ulvaeus went after music writing career. Lyngstad and Faltskog, on the other hand, went for a solo career.

After ten years of being disbanded, the compilation of ABBA Gold was released in 199 and became the best-selling in the world. Mamma Mia adopted ABBA’s music, and a film with the same title was released in 2008. In 2016, the band joined hands again and had become the best-selling music artist of all time. They have sold about 150 and 385 million records and singles, respectively. Keep reading this article to know more about the net worth of ABBA in 2021.

Well, how well do you know about ABBA? If not much, we have compiled all you need to know about ABBA’s net worth in 2024, wiki and complete details. Well, if you’re all set, here is what we know about ABBA to date.

Inception

Before forming ABBA, the different members had their music careers on. Benny Andersson was a member of a Swedish pop-rock group called Hep Stars. Bjorn Ulvaeus started his music career at the age of 18 as a singer and guitarist in the Hootnanny Singers. He used to write English-language songs for the group. Anni-Frid Lyngstad started to sing at 13 years with various bands and later formed her own band in 1967, the Anni-Frid Four. Agnetha Faltskog was singing with a local band which was headed by Bernt Enghardt.

The four met in 1970 as two couples who had gone for a holiday and started singing for fun which later led to their performance for United Nations Soldiers. At that time, Andersson and Ulvaeus were recording their first album, “Lycka,” and Faltskog and Lyngstad added backing vocals to some of their tracks.

They started writing songs together and released two singles, “Det Kan Ingen Doktor Hjalpa,” which means “No Doctor Can Help with That,” and Tank Om Jorden Vore Ung” meaning “Imagine Earth was Young.” Faltskog and Lyngstad were mainly vocals.

Their first song together, “People Need Love,” was released in mid-197. The manager of this band was Stig Anderson, and he helped the band release another song, “Ring Ring.” In 1973, Stig came up with a shorter band, ABBA, which became privately and publicly known. Although there was a fish company with the same abbreviations, it was not known outside Sweden and worked well for them. Rune Soderqvst designed the band’s logo, with the first B being mirrored.

Evolution

ABBA tried to enter Melodifestivalen with their Ring Ring Song but failed in 1973. Stig Anderson planned to enter the 1974 contest. Together with Ulvaeus and Anderson thought of using Eurovision Song Contest to make the music business recognize them as songwriters and also a band. Their breakthrough came in 1974 after they won Eurovision Song Contest with their “Waterloo” song, which was a song in English.

They released another single, “Honey, Honey,” which peaked at number 27 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The band released their first compilation album, “Greatest Hits,” in 1976. Their fourth album, “Arrival,” became the best-selling album in Europe, Australia, and the U.K. as number one and number three in Canada and Japan. Their six-album, “Voulez-Vous,” was released in April 1979 and peaked at number one in Europe, Japan, and Mexico.

Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad divorced in 1981, while Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog had divorced in 1980. ABBA was indefinitely dissolved in 1982 after a public performance as that was the last time they were seen together before their reunion in 2016. They had performed on a British TV program on the show “The Late, Late Breakfast.”

The four appeared at Mamma Mia: The Party in Stockholm on 20 January 2016. Later in June, during a private party at Berns Salonger to celebrate Andersson and Ulvaeus’s 50th anniversary, Faltskog and Lyngstad performed live an ABBA song, “The Way Old Friends Do” and were joined by Andersson and Ulvaeus. Simon Fuller, a British manager, announced in October 2016 that the four would be coming together and work on the digital entertainment experience.

On 27 April 2018, ABBA members announced that they had worked on two sings together, “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down.”
