  2. I, and many others in Canada, enjoy watching and listening to Fareed’s programmes on CNN. I was particularly interested in the recent programme on the Republican Party. What is difficult here, when trying to listen to CNN programmes and even ads, there is often loud, repetitive, unmotivated clunking so-called music in the background which obliterates what is being said. If I were paying for a CNN ad, I would be angry that my ad was being wrecked by loud background tootle. There is often the same problem with programmes of philosophical and historical substance. Part of the spoken word is drowned out by other sounds. What is the purpose of this excessively loud background noise? Fareed’s programme was a case in point: Blocked speech!
