He had three wins, six poles, 13 top tens, and an 8th place finish.

Martin started racing in the Rousch racing with the chief of the crew being Steve Hmiel driving the No 6 Ford Thunderbird. He recorded 3 top fives and top tens along with the pole at Dover. In 1989, at Daytona 500, the season with DNF. He won his first Winston Cup at Rockingham, defeating Rusty Wallace by 3 seconds.

In 1990, he got his first finish in the big race by finishing at 21st place in Daytona 500. The controversy took place that he had raced with an illegal carburetor for which he has penalized 46 championship points. The 1991 season was worse compared to the previous season. Despite doing well, he never achieved the points he needed. Martin bagged 14 top fives, 17 top tens, five poles, and 6 th place in standings.

In 1992, he bagged 10 top fives, 17 top tens, one pole, and a sixth-place finish in standings. In 1993, he began by finishing 6 th in the Daytona 500. He bagged five wins at the end of the season, 12 top fives, 19 top tens, five poles to a 3 rd pls e finish in the standings.

In 1994, Martin raced in the Busch series and also became due to the mistake made by him in Bristol. Martin won 4 races in 1995. In 1996, for the first time in eight seasons, Martin was winless. Martin rebounded in 1997, scoring four wins. The best season was 1998 when he scored seven wins, 22 top fives, 26 top tens, and three poles.

In 1999, although he scored just two wins, he bagged 26 top tens. In 2000, he was just able to bag one win at the spring Martinsville race. In 2002, Martin could win one race at the Coca-Cola 600. In 2003, he again went winless. In Rousch racing, Martin won 35 career NASCAR Cup Series races and finished 2nd in the Cup series.

On October 6, 2006, Martin would spill time with Regan Smith in the Ginn racing in 2007. Martin came second in the 2007 Daytona 500, 0.020 seconds behind Kevin Harvick, in one of the most contentious finishes in the race’s history. Martin also bagged three consecutive top 5 finishes that year.

On July 25, 2007, Dale Earnhardt, Inc announced the purchase of Ginn Racing. Martin began his career with DEI as a driver at the 2007 Allstate 400.
