His father worked as a high school band director and piano technician. His family moved to Edmonds, Washington in 1967 when he was 12 years old. His family also owned the piano store, “Steves Sound of Music” which was also located in Edmonds. Coming to his siblings, he has two sisters, Jan and Linda Steves.
