Haggerty’s acting career began when he got small non-speaking roles as a bodybuilder in the movies; Muscle Beach Party and Girl Happy. Later he also got appearances in various biker and wildlife films such as Easy Rider, Angels Die Hard, The Adventures of Frontier Fremont, and Terror Out of the Sky. At the time, Haggerty was really good with animals and was therefore hired as an animal trainer and handler in films for Walt Disney Studios. He worked with bears, foxes, and even hawks in the 1997 film, Grizzly Mountain.
In 1974, he portrayed the character Grizzly Adams in the Sunn Classic Pictures feature, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.
