He was found sixteen days later abducted, but only his head was found, and his body was never found. The serial killer of Adam was revealed in 2008 to be Ottis Toole, who died in 1996 while serving his life sentence for several other crimes.

Later, the Walsh family founded The Adam Walsh Child Resource Center after this crime. Walsh and his wife got three more children after the death of their first son; Meghan was born in 1982, Callahan in 1985, and Hayden in 1994.
