Biography and Early Life

It was on 20^th of September in 1988 when Khabib was born as Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov in a place known as Sildi Village, in Tsumadinsky District in Dagestan ASSR. This is an autonomous republic found within the Russian SFSR in the Soviet Union. Khabib is not the only child of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov and his wife whose name is not revealed.

This is because, he has a younger sister named Amina and an older brother named Magomed. His family moved from Sildi to Kirovaul where they owned a two-storey building. Abdulmanap  Nurmagomedov decided to convert the ground floor of this building into a gym.

Khabib was raised alongside his siblings and cousins. He developed great interest in martial arts at a young age after watching some students training at the gym. When he was 9 years old, his training included wresting a bear. He started wrestling at a very young age just as it is common with many Dagestan children.

He started training in wrestling when he was 12 years of age and at the age of 15, he had started training in Judo. Then at the age of 17, he started his combat sambo training. He said that this was a great challenge as transiting from wrestling to judo sambo was never easy. However, his father who was his couch wanted him to get used to gi jacket and had to obey his guidelines.

This was followed by his fights against great fighter like Thiago Tavares, Gleson Tibau, Pat Healy and Abel Trujillo and luckily, he won all the fights either through submissions or TKOs.

Khabib fought against Rafael dos Anjos in 2014 and won the fight, he started vying for a shot at the title. He won matches against Michael Johnson, Darrell Horcher, and Edson Barboza before he got a title shot against Al Iaquinta. He retired from Mixed Martial Arts in 2020.
