After college, Jain got his first job in 1983 at Burroughs in New Jersey as part of a business-exchange program. He later moved to Silicon Valley to work for a number of startups before he joined Microsoft in 1989. After about eight years with the company, he began feeling like he couldn’t make much of an impact at Microsoft and decided to quit his job to start InfoSpace.
He started InfoSpace in 1996 with six employees from Microsoft, where they began developing e-mail and telephone directories. They went public in 1998 and made an IPO of $75 Million.
