Pentatonix was formed in 2011 by members, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Avi Kaplan. They garnered initial success when they won the 3^rd season of the popular singing competition TV series, “The Sing-Off”. By winning the competition, they also won a sum of $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.

They created their YouTube channel “PTXofficial” on the 11^th of September 2011, and they have only become more popular with each passing day. Some of the most popular covers that can be found on their YouTube channel are “Gangnam Style” and “We Are Young”.

In 2017, Avi Kaplan left the group and was replaced by Matt Sallee.
