Pentatonix was formed in 2011 by members, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Avi Kaplan. By winning the competition, they also won a sum of $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.

In 2017, Avi Kaplan left the group and was replaced by Matt Sallee.
