Terry Wayne Fator was born to Jephtha Wesley and Edith Marie Clifton on 10 June 1965 in Dallas, Texas. He has two siblings, an older brother, Jephtha Jr, and a younger sister, Deborah. He is also a second cousin to American Idol’s Season six finalist, Chris Sligh.

Fator got married to Melinda in July 19991 but got divorced in 2009. Terry married his on-stage assistant Taylor Makakoa, and they had a wedding in Hawaii on 7 November 2010.
