Toni Tennille didn’t get into music immediately after completing her education and she instead worked as a file clerk following which she worked as a statistical analyst for North American Rockwell Corporation. She became a member of the South Coast Repertory (SCR) in the late 1960s.

In 1969, she wrote the music for the new rock musical, “Mother Earth” which brought her initial success. She had previously worked for the popular rock band, The Beach Boys and she returned to the band after completing her work on “Mother Earth”. She played electric piano with the band on their 1972 tour.

She then formed “Captain & Tennille” along with the popular American musician and her future husband, Daryl Dragon in 1973. Their relationship gave birth to several hits including, “The Way I Want to Touch You”, “Love Will Keep Us Together”, “Do That to Me One More Time”, and “Muskrat Love”. In 1975, they released the singles, “The Way I Want to Touch You” which captured the 4th position on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Love Will Keep Us Together”, which landed them a Grammy Award. From 1979 to 1981, they starred in the nationally syndicated musical show, “The Toni Tennille Show”. Her memoir, “Toni Tennille: A Memoir” was released in 2016.
