Inception
ZZ Top was formed in 1969 by members, Billy Gibbons, Lanier Greig, and Dan Mitchell. Billy worked on lead vocals and guitars, Lanier was the bassist and organist of the group, while Dan worked on drums and percussion. Later that year, they released their debut single, “Salt Lick,”. Following that, Lanier and Dan were replaced with Billy Ethridge and Frank Beard. When they received a record deal from London Records, all members agreed to the contract except Billy Ethridge.
As a result, he left the band and was replaced by Dusty Hill. In 1971, they released their debut album, “ZZ Top’s First Album”. The next year in they released their second studio album, “Rio Grande Mud”. The album’s single, “Francine” captured the 69th position on the Billboard charts. In 1973, they released their third studio album, “Tres Hombres” which captured the 8th position on the US Billboard 200.

In 1979, they released the album, “Degüello” which on one hand received a platinum certification from the RIAA but on the other hand, only captured the 24th position on the Billboard 200 charts. A couple of years later, they released their 7th studio album, “El Loco” which was certified Gold. In 1983, they released the album, “Eliminator” which is the biggest commercial hit of their career.
