Inception

Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick formed the pop band, Kara’s Flowers in 1994 when they were still in high school.  Adam served as the lead vocalist, Jesse was the keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Mickey was the bassist, and Ryan was the drummer of the band. With the addition of guitarist James Valentine to the band, the name of the band was changed to Maroon 5.

Their journey began in 2002, with the release of their debut single, “Harder to Breathe” which was both a commercial and critical success. The single was a part of their first album, “Songs About Jane”. The album eventually reached the 6th position on the Billboard 200 and even sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. In 2006, drummer Ryan Dusick left the band and he was replaced by Matt Flynn, who had been touring with them for the last couple of years. The album not only captured topped the U.S. Billboard 200 charts but also sold close to 430,000 copies within 7 days of its release.

In 2008, they released the single, “If I Never See Your Face Again” featuring Rihanna which landed them a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. In 2010, PJ Morton joined the band. He became an official member of the group he filled-in for Jesse Carmichael, who took a temporary break from 2012 to 2014.

In 2011, they re-released their 3rd studio album, “Hands All Over” to include the incredibly hit single, “Moves like Jagger”. The song was not only a critical success but also topped the charts in more than 18 countries. Similarly, the music video for the song was very well received and even earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

In 2012, they released the album, “Overexposed” whose singles, “Payphone” and “One More Night” captured the second and the first position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart respectively. In the same year, they released the single, “Daylight” which topped the charts of Mainstream Top 40. In 2014, Jesse Carmichael returned to the band, thereby making Maroon 5, a six-member band. In the same year, they released the album, “V” which captured the number 1 position on the US Billboard 200 chart.

The album’s single, “Sugar” was a massive success as it not only captured the second position on the US Billboard Hot 100 but also received a Grammy nomination. A couple of years later in 2016, Sam Farrar who had been touring with the band for the past 4 years became an official member of the group.
