Inception

Twice was formed in 2015 by JYP Entertainment but the members of the group were decided by a girl group survival show, “Sixteen”. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, and Chaeyoung were initially selected as the group’s members.  Tzuyu and Momo were later added to the group thereby making it a nine-member group.

On the 20th of October 2015, they released their debut EP, “The Story Begins” which eventually captured the 3rd position on the Gaon Album Chart while the album’s lead single, “Like Ooh-Ahh” which eventually captured the 10th position on the Gaon Digital Chart. In 2016, Twice released their second EP, “Page Two” which turned out to be a huge commercial success. The following year in 2018, they released the single, “Candy Pop” which not only captured the top position on the Japan Hot 100 chart but also earned a platinum certification from the RIAJ. In the same year, they released the EP, “What Is Love?” which was both critically and commercially successful. The EP was certified platinum by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA).

In 2018, they also released their Japanese single, “Wake Me Up”, which was certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). In September of 2018, they released their first Japanese studio album, “BDZ” which captured the 1st position on the Oricon Albums Chart and also earned a platinum certification from the RIAJ. In September of 2019, they released their eighth EP, “Feel Special” which captured the number one position on the Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart.

Also in 2019, they released their second Japanese studio album, “&Twice” which topped the Oricon Albums Chart. In 2020, they released the EP, “More & More” which captured the 200th position on the Billboard 200.
